Board Newsletter

Sara Mathew —

We had our last Board meeting on the 17th October 2019. The last couple of months, we (new Board of trustees) have been busy attending several Board Meeting and workshops since 1st August 2019 to get up to with governance and progress of the school operations to date.

Thanks to Tony (Principal) and Amanda (Office Manager). They worked hard to ensure we/new trustees are well resourced, equipped and grounded with knowledge about the history, culture, vision, values, strategy and the school operations. Our school is growing steadily and discussions have already started for stage 2 development of our school. Our school has also partnered with Yuhuaxilu Primary School in China to create opportunities for students in China to experience and be a part of our school and our culture for a period of time.

Progress Report

The school’s vision is to Inspire, challenge and empower all learners”, and to model, promote and understand our 5C values (collaboration, creativity, confidence, community-minded, curiosity) which you would have seen displayed in every learning hub.The school has displayed these values. Some of the key highlights recently were:

  • Seeing students confidently perform the powhiri where they welcomed 5 new staff and new students
  • Students hosting the morning assembly for Diwali (Indian festive) celebration
  • Friday Lunches to raise funds for charity
  • Students running the market day

Special Note

Congratulations to Frank Young (Kāhu teacher) who has won an Across Schools Leadership role for our Community of Learning. He will be working across 17 schools for 2 days a week.

Congratulations to Joanna who has won a within CoL role to work on Taakaro-ora (A Sport NZ/Sport Waikato and Te Pae Here Community of Learning Pilot programme focused on health and wellbeing). She will be working closely with Sport Waikato to grow awareness of mental health and support staff and students within our own school.

Until our next board news….

Ngaa Mihi
