Bilingual Te Reo Māori class - 2025

Sandra Humphry —

We are pleased to advise that we will be establishing our first bilingual class in 2025, following very strong demand and commitment from our families.

Please note that the class for 2025 is now at capacity, but we will be establishing a waiting list if any places become available.

Below are also some responses to a couple of FAQs we have received.

I am concerned that my child’s English is not strong enough.  Would it be better that they remain in English medium classes?

Research is very clear in this area.  The learning of 2 languages and becoming biliterate (the ability to read, write, and think in two languages) can give students an advantage over those in English-medium.  This is an additive approach, where the learning of Te Reo Māori improves students' success in both Māori and English, as the skills transfer between the two.

Who can join this class?

This class is open to any student of any nationality (we have many non-Māori families that have expressed an interest).  Any levels of Te Reo Māori are welcome, and students of differing levels will be supported.
