Ruben the Road Safety Bear

Melissa Langley —

It was great to have Ruben the Road Safety Bear visit our 5-7 year old students last week.

Ruben helps children learn about keeping safe around roads and traffic.  If you want to reinforce Ruben's messages at home, his interactive website is here: http://ruben.govt.nz

Ruben's Key Messages:

  • Seat yourself right, buckle in tight
It’s safest to use a booster seat until you’re at least 148 cm tall

  • Helmet on right and tight
Wear your helmet every time you ride your bike or scooter

  • Look out for sneaky driveways
It is safest to play in outdoor areas that a fenced and away from driveways and vehicles

  • Stop look listen and link
Choose the safest place to cross the road

  • Be bright dress bright
When wearing bright colours you are more noticeable to other road uses

With Borman Road now open up to Kay Road, we anticipate a lot more traffic, and this is a timely reminder to chat to your kids regarding a safe route to school and areas to take extra care.

We also encourage parents to use the many parks surrounding our school/park and to walk in to school to collect your child (or have them walk out to meet you), rather than all trying to use the congested pickup bay.
