Message from the Board

Andrew Corkill —

Kia ora Whānau.

Term 3 kicked off this week with a wonderful Pōwhiri. From a Board perspective it was great for us to welcome new families to our kura and to celebrate the start of term as one whole group.

One of our recently funded board initiatives has been to cover with artificial turf the grassed area in the middle of the school. This area has poor sunlight, grass doesn’t grow well and it often has quite muddy areas from all the foot traffic. Over the holidays the wonderful Tiger Turf team have finished the installation and this week kids were able to fully enjoy the area for the first time since the school opened. Spaces like these will be more important to preserve for play as we continue to grow and expand our buildings in future. Next up (likely end of term three) will be a transformation of the hardcourt space to astroturf. This will enable more of a multipurpose use for our tamariki and the wider community who use this space with a side benefit being a reduction in risk of injury from hitting the hard concrete!

Many thanks for all of you who engaged over the last week of Term 2 with Hui-a-whānau. On my visits to the classrooms it was lovely to see so many families, students and teachers engaging in one space for the student to share their learning. Thanks also to the teachers for taking the extra time over that last week to dedicate to these important discussions.
