Board of Trustees Update

Board of Trustees —

Further to the last Board of Trustees update (on 18th February), the Board has filled the vacancy by selecting Dawn Gibbs to this role.

Dawn was the next highest polling candidate when we held our Board of Trustee elections back in 2019, and so we felt this was the most democratic process to fill this vacancy. Welcome Dawn!

A message from Dawn:

Kia ora, my name is Dawn Gibbs.

Together with my husband, David Warner, we have had our two children attend Te Ao Mārama School since the day the school opened.

I work on a part time basis, as the financial accountant for a local timber company. Being an experienced Chartered Accountant, I have a demonstrated history of working in both large and small companies. I am skilled in most aspects of accounting, with a speciality in budgeting and business planning. I am a trustworthy, responsible, confident and outgoing person with the ability to relate well with people of all ages and cultures.

When my children were younger, we attended Playcentre, which is a parent lead ECE centre. During our time there, I learned the principles and importance of play-based learning. Since the children have moved from a more traditional school and started at Te Ao Mārama School, I have observed the positive impact this child-centred learning can have on both academic achievement and personal attributes, such as confidence and happiness. The custom-built facilities supporting this child-centred learning style, combined with the school’s focus on relationships, and vision to inspire, challenge and empower our children, make Te Ao Mārama School a very special place for our children to excel and achieve their full potential.

I have been involved with Te Ao Mārama School since it opened, helping Kereru Students make a quilt with artwork designed by themselves, and supporting both the walking school bus program, and the Whanau Support Group. My leisure activities include a passion for all forms of handcrafts, specifically knitting and hand dyeing wool. I also enjoy gardening, going for bike rides and escaping into nature by going for bush walks.

I consider it a privilege to serve on the Board of Trustees for Te Ao Mārama School.
