Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme

Tony GreyAugust 7, 2023

The wellbeing and safety of our students is a priority for our staff and board of trustees. Please see information below regarding the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme which will be taught a little later this term.

Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS) is a school-based personal safety programme that provides children and young people with skills to cope with situations that might involve abuse. It was developed by a partnership between the NZ Police and Ministry of Education, and is taught in most NZ schools.

What will our students learn?

They will learn:

  • to work out when their safety is at risk
  • how to keep safe when they meet and mix with other people
  • who and how to ask for help if they, or someone they know, is being abused
  • to go on asking for help until someone does something to stop the abuse
  • that it is important to make and follow personal, family and school safety rules.

They will know:

  • that abuse is never okay
  • that abuse is never their fault.
