A reminder that we will be holding an assembly next week, Monday 5th November at 2:00pm. This will be for the Year 3-6 students and we will be presenting the Athletics Sports/ Middle Distance certificates.

SchoolDocs - policy and procedures

SchoolDocs have recently rolled out some new policies.  We would like to bring to your attention our  ‘Parent and Whānau’ section. The SchoolDocs team have recently updated these policies which directly impact parents. We encourage parents to view these policies: Community Conduct: Expectations and the Community Social Media guidelines.

Music Festival

On Friday evening Emily Keenan and I attended the Christchurch Schools Music Festival at the Horncastle Arena. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and in particular would like to acknowledge Hilary Seymour who has led our senior choir in making this a rich learning opportunity for our children. Congratulations to Elisabeth C who was selected for the junior school representative choir and Alex W for the representative orchestra. We were very proud of these students alongside our senior choir who performed to a high standard on the night.

Sexuality Education parent session

On Monday evening we held a Sexuality Education session facilitated by the Family Planning association. Thank you to the parents who were able to attend and learn about the programme that we offer for our Year 5 / 6 students.

Year 2 families: Bring Your Own Device

Families in our Year 3-6 classes are able to choose if their child brings a device to school. We have a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ policy and guidelines which are available on SchoolDocs.  All children and parents are expected to read and sign our Digital Citizenship agreements.

Waimairi-iri Community of Learning Events

We have two events organised by the Waimairi-iri Community of Learning.  We have a super heroes session at Harewood School organised on 9 November. On the 27 November some of our senior children will be attending the ‘Experience Burnside day’. These are great examples of our Community of Learning working successfully together.

Strike action update

The Chief of the Employment Relations Authority, James Crichton is engaging in talks on behalf of the union (NZEI) with the government regarding the recent negotiations for teachers and principals. The rolling strikes that may take place across the country affect Christchurch on 14 November.  At present the Board are in discussions around this process and they will inform our community once they have considered our school circumstances.
