The Miraculous Minecraft Competition
Reported By Isabella H, Emily C, Shaun, and Tanay
Thursday the 8th of June was an exciting day for some Kāhu students because they got selected to go into the Minecraft Competition!
The Minecraft Competition is when 2 groups of 4 students from a couple schools around Christchurch go to Harewood School to compete in a building competition in Minecraft.
In the year 5 team we had Benji, Shaun, Jayden Y and Lucas W, and in the year 6 team we had Dylan, Isabella H, Emily C and Kingston. The students had a speed build topic that they had to build.
Last year they had to build a wheke (octopus) attacking a waka (Māori boat). Everyone did a great job! This year they built a Waka Hourua (double hulled waka), and the Roydvale Year 6 team won! The Year 5 team came second! WOW!
The students left at 8:40am and came back at 12:30pm. The Minecraft Competition reporter group people interviewed some students from the competition.
Oscar from Burnside Primary said he was happy he got in this year because he didn't last year.
Lennox from Harewood School said he was excited to be doing this competition. He said he might win the competition. The people in his team were: Olivia, Bella, and Stella. Lennox was very very happy when he found out that he got into the competition.
Olivia from Harewood school said she didn’t do the Minecraft competition last year. She said that she was excited for the competition and hoped her group would win the competition. The people in her group were Lennox, Bella and Stella. She said that she had practised enough and she had practised a lot. She was very happy that she got into the Minecraft competition.
Isabella, in our Year 6 team said, “It was fun doing the competition and building the waka. When Wilj announced the winning team, I thought we wouldn’t be able to win because there were a lot of amazing builds. But when Wilj announced the winning team was Team Rima, I couldn’t believe it was us!”
Dylan from our Year 6 team said he was devastated and shocked. He was surprised that he won the competition.
Jayden Y from our Year 5 team said, “I felt nervous and confident before the competition, but I felt good and proud of myself and my team afterwards.”
Lucas from our Year 5 team said, “I was nervous before the competition, and I felt proud and happy after. I was proud of my team and surprised that the Year 6 team won.
Wow, it seems everyone had a lot of fun there. Everyone did an amazing job. They all tried a lot and worked as a team, Great job! A big thanks to the parents that drove the kids and to Miss D for coming along and supporting the students.
