Touch Rugby - please read

Karen Dolheguy —

At this stage we cannot confirm if or when the season will start due to Covid 19 Alert Levels. In the meantime we are asking for registrations and as soon as we have confirmation and further information this will be communicated to those that have registered.

The Touch Rugby season is starting on the 19th October. It is played on a Tuesday night at Nunweek Park.

Kiwi Touch games (Years 0 - 2 and Years 3 - 4) are played from 5.30pm until 6.00pm with intermediate games (Years 5- 6) being played from 6.05pm until 6.35pm.

Canterbury Touch rules states "all teams in the 3,4,5,6 grades must have at least 3 girls on the field at all times". Therefore the number of teams Te Ara Maurea Roydvale School can enter will be dependent on the number of girls wishing to play.

In 2021 Year 5/6 boys and Year 5/6 girls, as well as mixed teams are available.

Points to note/consider:

  • Each team entered in relevant grades are required to have 4 girls, a coach, team manager and referee.

  • Entering teams depends on the number of girls interested. We will need 4 for each team, if we do not have this a team cannot be entered.

  • If we have excess numbers of boys interested to play their names will be put in a ballot. If a name is not drawn for a team they will be given the option to be a reserve in a team to cover if other players are unavailable.

  • Year 6 students - please carefully consider the availability to commit as your child will be expected to complete the season playing for Te Ara Maurea Roydvale School at the beginning of 2022 as well. (When children leave primary school they often want to participate in extra-curricular activities offered by their new school.)

  • The fee (once confirmed) must be paid within one week of being notified your child is in a team. If this is not paid your child’s place will be given to another player.

  • The cost to enter a player in the competition is yet to be advised. This fee is independent of other school activity fees and needs to be paid prior to registration.

Coaches/Referees and Managers

As with all sports we rely on your help to coach, manage and referee teams. Team registrations will not be accepted without a coach and a manager.

Coaches and referees will be required to attend a training evening at Burnside Cricket Club on Wednesday 13th October or Monday 18th October 2021 6.30 - 8.00 pm (you must attend one night).

Uniforms

All children must wear a Te Ara Maurea Roydvale School Touch top and black shorts. The tops can be borrowed from school and will be issued to players once teams are finalised. Any black shorts are suitable. Children must also wear sports socks and shoes at all times.

If your child would be interested in playing Summer Touch please click on the following link Registration Form to register them. Please register your child by Wednesday  22nd September 2021.

Registering your child’s interest to play will not guarantee a place in a team.
