Principal's Update Week 5 Term 1 2023

Admin —

We are well settled into the term. Our teachers and children are into a great school routine. We have been focusing on connecting and getting to know each other, particularly as we settle into Homerooms.

Emergency drills

Last week we sent out some communication around our Lockdown practice. Every term we practise a range of drills to ensure we are prepared in an emergency. The teachers talk to the children about the different drills and how to respond so they know what to expect. You might like to talk with your child about what was discussed with their Homeroom teacher.

Board communication

Our Presiding Chair Josh has sent through communications from the Board. You can read it here.

ERO partner

You will be aware that we have been working with our Education Review Office partner, Jacqueline Woods over the last couple of years. Jacqueline recently met with our Leadership Team in regards to our attendance data and how we engage whānau and support high attendance.

Cyclone fundraising

Thank you to all the families who took part in our non uniform day last week raising funds for the victims of Cyclone Gabrielle. As a school we raised $609.10 which we will be donating to KidsCan to support children and schools.

Paid union meeting- Thursday 2 March

Thank you to the families who are able to collect their children for the afternoon tomorrow. This will allow staff to attend the paid union meeting and the remaining staff to safely care for the children at school. The teachers are currently negotiating their contract, this is a continuation of last year's negotiations.

Swimming

Our staff have been utilising the school pool regularly this term, particularly with the great weather we have had. Our caretaker, John has done an amazing job of maintaining the pool over the term and we would like to acknowledge the work he has done alongside the team of parents who have assisted with the roster over the break. The swimming pool will be closed on 10 March. For pool key holders the last weekend the pool will be open is 4 / 5 March. Please return your pool key to the office before Friday 10 March - an adult/caregiver needs to do this.

Easter Raffle - Non uniform day.

Our PTA will be holding a non uniform day next Friday 10th March. We are asking for donations for our Easter raffle baskets- the information is here.

We would like to welcome Scarlett to Te Ara Maurea Roydvale School.
