Principal's Post - week 1, Term 2.

Jenny Washington —

Tōtika: Balance. Mahia i runga i te rangimārie me te ngākau māhaki. With a peaceful mind and respectful heart, we will always get the best results.

We would like to welcome everyone back to Term 2. We are looking forward to a busy term with swimming scheduled for the last two weeks. We were really fortunate over the break to have such wonderful weather, we have heard from a number of children that they participated in a range of activities including visiting libraries, biking, walking and spending time with family and friends. It’s great to see so many children are rested and ready for the term.

We started the term with a reminder about our school values and expectations. We talked about the importance of Learning, Respect, Responsibility and Perseverance. These are all extremely important values at Roydvale School.

Cross Country

We were very lucky with the weather today for the Cross Country. There were a number of grandparents, parents, friends and whānau who were able to support the children.  It's such a delight to have so many people attending these events for the  children.  It was wonderful to see our teachers and some parents running with our children for encouragement, this is a great example of our school values in action.

Uniforms: It was great to see the children in their winter uniforms this week.

Drink bottles: We encourage children to bring a drink bottle to school each day.

Litter: We are encouraging children to reduce, re-use and recycle. Children need to bring their food wrappings and rubbish home. This reduces the amount of rubbish the school is managing and encourages families to re-use containers and wrappings.

Road Safety: As we head into the winter terms we remind families to ensure they are parking safely around the school. Please abide by the road rules, particularly keeping off the broken yellow lines outside of the school, our road patrollers who take their job extremely seriously are unable to see on coming vehicles. We also encourage families to follow the specified parking allocations along Juniper Place.

Disco - 18 May: There is a disco for the children on 18 May. The junior disco starts at 5:30 - 6:45pm and the senior disco from 7-8:30pm. Parent helpers are needed for the following: Door / Clean up / Safety Warden / Decorating hall / Toilet Monitor / Kitchen duties. Please email: roydvale.pta@gmail.com . The staff and PTA look forward to seeing you there.

We have our mid year reports due to families at the end of the term. Here is a summary of our reporting practices.

REPORTING TO PARENTS

We thought it was really important for you to know what to expect over the year in terms of reporting to you as our school community. We hold a sharing paper meeting at the beginning of each year. This is an opportunity for parents to discuss with their child’s new teacher how their child has settled into class, as well as any areas of need the parents would like the teacher to be aware of.

YEAR 1-2

All New Entrant children receive a ‘One month’ report after five weeks.

Interim reports are issued at 6 monthly intervals from a child’s anniversary/birthday.

All year 1-2 children will receive an anniversary report around their birthday or anniversary of starting school.

YEAR 3-6

Mid-year written reports and student led conferences are held at the end of term 2 for all year 3-6 students. At the end of the year all Year 3 to 6 children receive an end of year report. You will receive a report on your child’s capabilities in regards to literacy and mathematics and in reference to our four key values.

We have a number of new families who have joined the Roydvale School Community. A reminder if you need to contact the Homeroom teacher the email address is as follows: firstname.lastname@roydvale.school.nz The Homeroom teacher in the first instance is the person you need to contact.
