Principal Post - week 7
It’s been great to see the sunshine over the last few days, this nice weather certainly makes a difference as the children can enjoy being outside in the fresh air. The weather has been perfect for the start of our swimming. Thank you to families who have ensured the children are prepared and ready for this opportunity. We have received really positive feedback from the instructors at Jellie Park about our children. It’s always really nice to receive these types of comments, particularly when we are mingling with the public.
Up and coming events
We have our Hereora Cultural Festival on Monday 11 September and Tuesday 12 September at the Aurora Centre. We are looking forward to these performances.
We have Pam Hook visiting us on Monday supporting us in our next steps with SOLO taxonomy. We have appreciated the leadership from Mrs Beckers-Yu providing great guidance and support to our teaching staff in this area.
A reminder about the Parent Education session with John Parsons on Monday 18 September is at 7:30pm at the Aurora Centre, Burnside High School. Tickets are $5 per person. If you would like to attend this event visit www.eventopia.co/johnparsonscybersafety to purchase a ticket.
Term 4 dates
We have endeavoured to put as many possible important dates on the Term 4 calendar to assist families at this busy time of year.
Board Strategic Planning
The Board are currently working with a facilitator to start their Strategic Plan for 2018- 2020. As part of this process they have a survey that they would like you to engage with. We will be sending this out to families around the 19 September. As part of this process we have been gifted three Māori names for the school. We would like families to select their preferred Māori name when this survey is distributed.
School Planning for 2018
As in all schools at this time of the year, there is a considerable amount of planning that begins for the school year ahead. If you know of any new entrant children in the community that are still yet to enrol for the fourth term of 2017 or for 2018 we would value hearing from them. Please encourage prospective families to contact the school on office@roydvale.school.nz or simply call the school office to speak to Karen or Jo.
We are in the ‘throws’ of starting to look at where teachers are going to be placed for 2018. Once we have completed this we will be looking at placing the children. Teams are continuing to work collaboratively together, therefore requesting an individual teacher proves too difficult and I ask that you trust the school in making the best possible decision for your child in terms of catering for their needs in 2018.
It is also important that if you have any new or additional information to share about your child/ren that may be helpful for your child’s education in 2018. If you could please ensure that this information is put in writing by Friday 20 October and delivered to the school office so this can be taken into consideration as we begin the team planning early Term 4.
