Principal Post - May 2024
Jenny Washington - May 10, 2024
Welcome back to Term 2. We know many families made the most of the holiday break and you were able to spend some quality time together as a family, particularly with the beautiful weather we had. The children have come back to school excited to return and see their teachers and friends. We are well settled into the term and looking forward to meeting with parents on the 25th and 26th June when we are holding interviews for tamariki (students)/ parents (caregiver) / kaiako (teacher).
Over the holidays we had the Carus painting crew maintain the works they completed a couple of years ago with washing down our buildings and touching up some paint. Our Caretaker John has been working hard too, he made the frames for the new soccer posts and is currently in the process of making some new bag containers for Homeroom 1 / 2 we are very fortunate to have such a skilled Caretaker, thanks John.
It was fabulous to see so many whānau attend our recent Cross Country. Families could enjoy and celebrate the efforts of all our tamariki. Thank you to Chris and Will for organising the events. The tamariki are really looking forward to the disco this Friday and we are recognising ‘Bully Free’ by wearing ‘Pink’ on Friday, you can read further information about this here.
Uniform - we have been notified by Mainland Uniforms that some of our uniform items will no longer be produced due to manufacturing supply changes. The sports jacket and winter culottes will not be available once supply has been sold. We are excited to introduce a new item which is a soft shell bottle green jacket which will replace the sports jacket. We will have one of these jackets available in the office to view in the next couple of weeks and then it will be available to purchase from Mainland Uniforms. All the current uniform can be worn and we will phase out the 'out of date' stock items over a period of time. We are currently liaising with Mainland Uniforms to look at options of simplifying our uniform. We will keep you informed about this process. We do have a limited supply of second hand items available at the office for $10 (please note price change).
Strategic and Annual Plan 2024
All schools are led by their Strategic and Annual Plan, you can find out about our plans here, these have been developed from our consultation with our community in 2022.
This is a reminder that on the 31 May we have a planned Teacher Only Day. We are working alongside the other 12 schools in our Waimairi-iri Kāhui Ako. We will be participating in a range of professional development opportunities and listening to guest speakers including: Alice Diamond (https://www.tekorekoreka.co.nz/), John Quinn and Melanie Riwai-Couch. Our staff are looking forward to this learning opportunity.
Donation
The Board has written a letter outlining information about donations. Thank you to the families who have already paid their donations for the year or paid their termly donation into our school account.
We would like to welcome Bella, Hadley, Onno, Jasmine and Leo to Te Ara Maurea Roydvale School.
