Principal Post - November
Welcome back to the start of Term 4. Our staff enjoyed seeing the tamariki return as we have planned and prepared many activities throughout our final term for the 2024 school term.
Thanks to Deb who organises and prepares our mihi whakatau and to Shaun Ogilvie from our Board who represents us. We welcome all our new whānau to our school.
We had some beautiful weather over the last two weeks of last term. Please remember that wearing a pōtae (hat) is important for Term 4. Please ensure uniform items are all labelled then they can be returned to their rightful owner.
We are going international. Our school has been working with ‘Infinity Learn’ a professional development organisation that has worked alongside our Kāhui for a number of years. Brian Annan and Mary Wotton lead this work and as a culmination of our work they recorded our journey along with Breens, Harewood and Fendalton schools to capture ‘learner agency’. We have attached the article for you to read. The French version of the article is being launched at a symposium in France next year. We are very proud of the work of our team led by Michaela and valued working with such highly regarded educationalists.
Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival
Congratulations to all of our choir members who performed very well in the Town Hall last Friday night. Also to Ethan in Year 5. Ethan was chosen to be part of the Representative Orchestra playing the violin. This is a huge privilege for Ethan to be part of and meant that he needed to dedicate many hours to rehearsals in his weekends and holidays. He then performed with children from a large number of Canterbury Schools, over the 4 nights that the festival was on last week. We are very proud of you Ethan, and you represented our school well.
New Enrolments
As in all schools at this time of the year, there is a considerable amount of planning that begins for the year ahead.
If you know of any new entrant children in the community that are still yet to enrol for 2025 we would value hearing from them. Please encourage prospective families to contact the school on admin@roydvale.school.nz or simply call the school office to speak to Rebecca or Jo.
Starting date for 2025
All children start school on Monday 3 February. We will be inviting all whānau (with their child/ren) to come for 10 minutes with their child on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 January to meet with the childs’ teacher and set some goals for the year. Children will not be expected to be in school uniform at these interviews. In the last week of the term we will send information out about making an appointment with the Homeroom teacher.
