Year 10 Junior Deans' Report

Siegrun Koop —

Past the halfway mark: paving the way forward.

Kia ora koutou, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Ni sa bula, Kumusta and warm greetings to our Te Aratai College community.

The last couple of months have been busy for our Year 10 ākonga both with teaching and learning, as well as with extracurricular activities. We were very impressed with the students’ positive attitude, engagement and high attendance of the online assessments for the NCEA literacy and numeracy co-requisite testing. This is a significant step in their transition to senior teaching and learning.

One of the highlights was our recent, very successful school production of the musical Grease. Congratulations to all our Year 10 students who set the stage on fire with their singing, dancing and acting. Also a big thumbs-up to our Junior hip hop crew for their third place at the Regional Hip Hop Competition last weekend. On the sports field, our U14 and U15 rugby teams continue to go from strength to strength impressing the audience with their growth in skill and teamwork. If you have a chance, come and support them and watch some awesome rugby for the remainder of the season. There is also very exciting news for our Year 10 mixed netball team who placed in their competition this week. Good luck to them.

In general, the Year 10 students are exploring our uara (values) of Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Rangatiratanga and Turangawaewae successfully in and out of class. It is great to see that most Year 10 students wear our uniform beautifully, representing Te Aratai College with pride.

With less than two terms to go, we have started the process of exploring the senior subject selection for 2024 with our Year 10 ākonga. Over the next couple of weeks, learners will use the Careers Central platform to preselect next year’s subjects. You can find information on the subjects on the Te Aratai College website. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Wā Whakanui in Week 7 to celebrate student success and look at your children’s selection for next year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s kaiārahi in the first instance or Pania pwa@linwoodcollege.school.nz or Sig koo@linwoodcollege.school.nz.

To all our Year 10 ākonga and whānau,

Ngā mihi nui

Pania Watson, Year 10 Dean
