Te Aratai College Sports Awards
On Friday, November 1st we celebrated the sporting success of our students for the 2024 sporting season.
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our coaches and managers who allow us to have sport at our kura. A mihi also to Jade Cull (Sports Coordinator), the Board of Trustees, Apollo Projects and our community for their support this year. Head of Sport, Jesse Harding was thrilled with how the evening went saying, “It was another fantastic evening to bring together our kaitākaro (players) and whānau to celebrate them. It is always one of my favourite nights of the year.”
It was another successful night for Dormay Laufiso after a successful year of competition. Dormay was awarded the Sportsperson of the Year award for the second year in a row; the top award of the evening.
Charlotte Williams and LJ Beattie were awarded Sportswoman and Sportsman of the year, respectively. Kymaira Flavell was awarded the Julie Maxwell Award: for a senior student who shows all of the Te Aratai College values through their contribution to sport.
Below is the list of our Individual Sports Trophies:
Elaisha Salamoding. Elaisha is the recipient of the overall Most Valuable Player for Badminton
Ethan Cockcroft. Ethan is the recipient of Tom Davies Cup for Futsal/Football
Raul Bethell. Raul is the recipient of the Boys Soccer Cup.
Matthew Courtney. Matthew is the recipient of the Christa Clyde Hockey Trophy for overall excellence in Hockey.
Ronnie Ma Chee. Ronnie is the recipient of the Walker Trophy Senior Rugby Most Valuable Player.
Conway Andrews. Conway is the recipient of The Boys Basketball MVP Trophy.
Shayla Tarawa. Shayla is the recipient of The Trent Johns Memorial Trophy for Basketball Excellence.
Dormay Laufiso. Dormay is the recipient of the Volleyball Cup overall Most Valuable Player for Volleyball
Hinemaia Paringatai-Dallas. Hinemaia is the recipient of the Junior Netball Most Valuable Player trophy.
Olivia Alexy. Olivia is the recipient of the Most Improved Senior Netball Player trophy.
Lorenzo Valikoula. Lorenzo is the recipient of the Ross McAuley Outstanding Touch Player Trophy.
Outstanding Captain of the Year, Conway Andrews: This award goes to a Te Aratai College Captain who has shown leadership over the course of the sport season.
Team of the Year 2024, Ki-o-Rahi.
Junior Spirit Award, Rory McNabb: This award is given to a Te Aratai College junior athlete who has consistently tried their best for the good of the team they are in, and furthermore, the good of the sport.
Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Hinemaia-i-te-Rangi Paringatai-Dallas.
Junior Sportsman of the Year, Jarome Rastrick.
Contribution to Boys’ Sport Award, JC Tolentino: This trophy is awarded to a male athlete who has made contributions to their sporting code or codes far greater than just a player.
Contribution to Girls’ Sport Award, Lena Norton: This trophy is awarded to a female athlete who has made contributions to their sporting code or codes far greater than just a player.
Julie Maxwell Award, Kymaira Flavell: The Julie Maxwell trophy is awarded to a senior student that shows all of the Te Aratai College values through their contribution to sport.
All-round Sportswoman, Charlotte Williams.
All-round Sportsman, LJ Beattie.
Sportsperson of the Year, Dormay Laufiso: This is the most prestigious award of the evening. The Sports Person of the year is awarded to the athlete who has endured the highest sporting success.
