Positive response: winter school uniform items
Whole-school focus: students successfully taking responsibility for winter items of school uniform
Kia ora e te whānau
Winter warmth
Thank you everyone for having the necessary conversations at home about students being warmly and appropriately dressed ready for their learning in the winter items of the school uniform.
There has been a marked improvement including on the colder days that we have had. We will gently keep this focus continuing by having quiet conversations with individuals when necessary.
And repeating from the previous article, if whānau have difficulty, financial or otherwise, supplying the winter uniform items the school has an easy process to be able to assist. We also have a supply of shoes and jackets entirely free to the whānau.
Please contact your child's kaiārahi (form teacher), our Guidance staff or direct to the uniform office, 03 982 0100 ext 866, if you wish to follow this up.
Community Open Day this Saturday 10am-2pm
We are having a Community Open Day at school this coming Saturday 11 June 10am-2pm. This is for interested people (and there have been many!) to look through Te Aratai College.
This is open to past pupils, former staff, prospective whānau as well as present whānau.
We will have guides on hand to show people around.
Student Learning Conversations next week
We are looking forward to a key event in the school year, the student-whānau-teacher learning progress conversations. The senior Academic Conferencing and junior Wā Whakanui are on Wednesday 15 June 3:00-6:00pm and Thursday 16 June 3.30pm-6.30pm.
Whānau have received information how to make book appointments online. Alternatively you can email office@linwoodcollege.school.nz or phone (03) 982 0100 to make your appointment.
The kaupapa-purpose of the Wā Whakanui and Academic Conferencing is for the student, whānau and teacher to discuss the student's learning progress and "next step" learning goals. The aim is to have the student lead this conversation as much as possible.
To make this real, Yr 7-10 students will have selected examples of their school-work to share with their whānau and show their progress and goals.
Wā Whakanui: whakanui translates in English to expand upon and to celebrate, which captures our wish to acknowledge what has already been achieved and to look to the next steps.
Schools can be complicated places.
There are many staff available to assist if whānau have a particular question. Contacting me can also be arranged through the office or my direct email is en@linwoodcollege.school.nz
My door is open.
Ngā mihi nui
