Maria Lemalie-Herbert —

Reflecting on a term of achievement and growth.

Kia ora koutou katoa,

As we approach the end of another busy and productive term, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to our students, staff, whānau, and our wider community for your collective efforts and unwavering support.

This newsletter captures just a snapshot of the many activities, achievements, and learning experiences that our Te Aratai College students and staff are involved with on a daily basis. Behind each story, performance, competition, and classroom activity are countless hours of dedication, practice, and commitment that truly exemplify what it means to be part of our college community.

Throughout this term, we have seen our school values of Manaakitanga (care and respect), Rangatiratanga (self-determination and leadership), Whanaungatanga (relationships and inclusivity), and Tūrangawaewae (where we belong) woven throughout everything we do. These values are not simply words on our walls; they are living principles that guide our students' growth and shape the culture of our school. While we deeply appreciate the support that families provide, I want to remind our students that ultimately, you must make a conscious decision to lead yourselves well. The choices you make each day shape your future. Choose to engage fully with your learning, to treat others with respect, to stand up for what is right, and to be leaders rather than followers. Your education is a partnership between school and home, but you are the key driver of your own success.

To our senior students preparing for final examinations, we wish you all the very best. Your hard work throughout the year has prepared you for this moment. Stay focused, support one another, and believe in yourselves. Your teachers and whānau are behind you every step of the way.

I am also delighted to acknowledge our emerging 2026 Head Students who have been formally announced to the school. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition. You have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, and we look forward to working alongside you as you represent our college with pride and integrity.

To our whānau, thank you for partnering with us in your children's education. Please continue to work together with your young people, engage in conversations about their learning, attend school events, and reinforce the importance of making positive choices. When home and school work in partnership, our students thrive.

Enjoy the term break, rest well, and return refreshed and ready for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Ngā mihi nui,
