Kōwhai House Deans' Report

Jane Schroeder —

Kia ora e te whānau o Kōwhai.

Term Two has been jam-packed full of hard mahi and achievements as we cross the academic mid-year and we hope you and your whānau are able to enjoy some quality time together over this winter break.

The house competitions this term were Netball and Spelling. It is no surprise to us that our Kōwhai ākonga dominated and won the netball competition with their excellent teamwork skills and unmatched sporting prowess. However, when it came to battling it out with the teaching staff, they were out of their league and teachers remain undefeated for the third year in a row. The spelling bee, containing words like ‘crepuscular’ was a challenge that unfortunately saw us slip down the scoreboard and give us something to work towards next year.

We have had the pleasure of celebrating success in numerous sporting, cultural and arts performances this term, one highlight being the Jazz showcase at Fat Eddie’s last weekend. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our learners’ talents with whānau and colleagues. The Filipino celebration of Independence Day was also a highlight of the term. We love sharing in each others’ cultures and learning about significant dates and events.

This term, Kōwhai House has introduced Ākonga o te Wiki (student of the week) with much success. It has been heartwarming to see our learners nominating each other for the unique ways they show our school values.

We look forward to seeing you back in two weeks, well-rested and ready for another fast-paced term as our seniors, in particular, close in on their NCEA goals.

Ngā mihi nui,

Ms. Schroeder and Miss Watson
