Pono House Senior Dean's Report

Marco Guglietta —

Setting up for academic success!

Haere mai back to Te Aratai College for 2023. It’s been so great to see familiar faces and meet new ākonga coming from far and wide to join our Te Aratai whānau.

As Pono House Dean it’s my responsibility to provide pastoral care to your child whilst overseeing their academic achievements. Academic assessments have begun and it’s awesome to see students already achieving credits as they work towards their respective NCEA levels. It’s really important that our students create positive habits with regard to their mahi and assessments. This could be about finding a balance between work, sports and school. By creating good academic habits early, our students will be able to manage their time appropriately whilst finding time to complete their assessments as well as socialise with their peers.

In our senior assembly in Week 4, our Tumuaki, Mr Edmundson spoke about respecting our potential. I tautoko this statement and encourage all senior students to think about where they see themselves in five to ten years' time and what would it take to get them to that point. I challenge them to be bold and take deliberate actions in order to get them to that point. The skills kaiako at Te Aratai College aim to teach our learners goes beyond the classroom and in Pono house, I want all students to strive for success and to learn to define what success means for them.

With only a few weeks left in Term 1, I encourage all students to continue to strive towards their academic goals and set up good habits which are sustainable and will set them up to achieve long-term success. For any support with this, I am happy to assist within my Deaning capacity.

Ngā mihi kia koutou,

Marco Guglietta
