Free Wifi

Ministry of Education —

Let your students and their whānau know that they can receive free home internet if they don’t already have a connection.

We are continuing to arrange free home internet connections for any household with a school-age child who doesn’t have home internet, and we would like you to let your school community know about this so they can contact us directly.

Attached is a flyer that informs you how to get in touch with us: EDOS - Home. To be eligible, households are to have a school-age child living there at least part of the time, and no current home internet connection. The Ministry is paying for the installation and monthly costs until 30 June 2024, and we’re working on the solution for beyond (no obligation on families to take it up).

If you use social media to connect with your school community, also attached is social media content that you can put on your Facebook page to let your school community know about the opportunity.

We have previously asked you to send your SMS records to us so that we can identify unconnected households and proactively contact them, and you can still do that to help us to sort a connection for as many who need it. EDOS requires the data in the attached template (“School Upload template”). Once populated please send the excel sheet in a password protected format to schoolrecords@edos.kiwi and text the password and your school name to EDOS at 8950.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact equitable.digitalaccess@education.govt.nz.

This is a really significant opportunity to help your learners have access to the internet from home across the school holidays, to continue their learning when they’re not at school, and to ensure their whānau is connected to digital life.
