Keeping Safe Online

Melissa Young —

Tips, tricks and support for wellbeing online.

As a school, we want to support everyone feeling safe online.

In this, we are guided by our college values of service, excellence, respect, curiosity and honesty.

Hauora, Mauri Ora and keeping safe online are also part of teaching and learning here at Linwood College at Ōtakaro. This helps us play active roles in promoting collective wellbeing for all alongside the mahi we all do at home on this, too.

Tips and tricks:

Support

We understand that some online experiences may be distressing at times.

We encourage anyone feeling unsafe online to talk to someone they trust and also to reach out for further support. The same goes for anyone noticing someone else in an unsafe situation online (or in-person).

To get support from us here at the college about online safety issues, please call 03 9820100 or email office@linwoodcollege.school.nz.

Our friendly kaimahi will receive your call or email and put you in touch with the right people.

  • We will want to hear what you and your whānau are experiencing.

  • We would also like to work out a way forward with you and your whānau.

  • We will be guided by our college values of service, excellence, respect, curiosity and honesty and will be open to learning about the values of your whānau, too.

To get support from wider agencies, you can contact:

  • Youthline on free text 234 or call toll-free on 0800 376 633 to talk to a confidential counsellor

  • Netsafe on free text ‘Netsafe’ to 4282 or visit www.netsafe.org.nz or call toll-free on 0508 NETSAFE (0508 638723) or email help@netsafe.org.nz or report harmful content on the online contact form.
