Promoting Performing Arts -Drama

Emily Whiteman —

Drama is alive and well at Linwood College, with students participating in a range of performance opportunities.

During Open Night, Students  really showcased the fun and joy of Drama here at Linwood as they introduced the subject to new and prospective students.

Currently the Junior programme is designed around the "Drama Grid".  This is designed to allow students agency and choice within their learning. Students need to complete the first layer of tasks, but then get to self select the areas of Drama that they would like to develop depending on their own interests. For example lighting, directing, dance, designing costumes and set design.

The year 10-13 classes have had a focus on special effects make-up. they have based their designs on Greek Mythology. The designs were amazing and showed the true scope of talent in this field. It also allows for students to experience other ways to be involved within the performing arts without being on the stage.  backstage is an integral element of the Performing Arts.

Term 3 sees the year 10's branching out into the "Techie Term' of lighting and production, and the seniors will be working on their major class production. Watch this space !
