Karaka House Deans' Report

Amelia Painter —

A review of all things related to students of the Karaka whānau for 2021.

Last Thursday afternoon we had the pleasure of celebrating academic achievements at our senior prizegiving. It was a fabulous time with many of our Karaka students receiving subject prizes or supreme awards. Of particular note were

  • Jason Prakash - in addition to winning 5 other awards, he also received the prize for being first place overall in Year 11, quite an achievement!

  • Ashlin Chandra - Board of Trustees Student Representative

  • Majenta Brown - Top Hospitality student

  • Mohammed Shah - Commerce prize

  • Maansi Dewan - Prime Minister's vocational excellence award

  • Kaye Maravilla - Proxime Accessit (secondary top academic student in Year 13), and a scholarship recipient for $13,000

In addition to prizegiving, this week we have also celebrated some of our special Year 12 students being announced as prefects for next year. Ashlin Chandra and Kaltan Kazakos-Gardner will be our Deputy Head students, Kiah Rogers Marshall will be our Arts Prefect, Manisha Baines and Hamida Ghazizada will take on the role of Values Prefect, Harmony Rayner will be a Māori Prefect, and Noeline Laufiso will be overseeing Pasifika. Of the 12 prefects announced, 7 come from Karaka House!

Congratulations to our award winners at the Senior and soon to be Junior prizegivings. Recognition for all your hard work throughout the year is an achievement and a formation of good habits that will continue into your working life. Well done. Have a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
