LCŌ and MOE update #20

Richard Edmundson —

Level 2 return to schools: Monday 18 May

Kia ora koutou. Talofa. Kia Orana. Malo e lelei. Bula. Fakaalofa atu. Namaste and Kumusta. Greetings to everyone at LCŌ and our wider LCŌ community.

The waiting is for our Level 2 timeline is over. Today, Monday 11 May, the Prime Minister announced that:

  •  from Thursday 14 May New Zealand will go to Alert Level 2 with the re-opening of retail, malls, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and other public spaces including playgrounds and gyms. All will be required to have physical distancing and strict hygiene measures in place.
  • on Monday 18 May all schools and early learning services will be open for all students.

Alert Level 2 restrictions will be reviewed in another two weeks.

The government's health advice remains that “Schools and early learning services are safe environments for children, young people and staff. Additional public health control measures are in place to prevent the spread of disease and to support contact tracing.”

Information has been coming from the Ministries of Education and Health, WorkSafe and other organisations. We have been working through this information but now with today's announcement we have the certainty of timing so we can tailor our return-plan with equal certainty.

I will share our return to school plan on Wednesday afternoon in order to give Thursday and Friday for any questions that whānau may have.

Until then, go well.

Ngā mihi nui -

Richard Edmundson Tumuaki-Principal
