LCŌ and MOE update #19

Education in Level 2 information announced this afternoon - Thursday 7 May

Kia ora koutou. Talofa. Kia Orana. Malo e lelei. Bula. Fakaalofa atu. Namaste and Kumusta. Greetings to everyone at LCŌ and our wider LCŌ community.

This is an initial communication to our community about today's announcements of education in Level 2. I am putting it out this evening so all of us can be on the same page as soon as possible. It is general information only and will be followed by a more detailed communication on Monday.

This afternoon the Prime Minister made major announcements about education in Level 2. She stated that, “Schools and early learning services are safe environments for children, young people and staff. Additional public health control measures are in place to prevent the spread of disease and to support contact tracing.”

You may well have already picked up the key messages that:

  • when Level 2 occurs all early learning services, schools and tertiary education facilities will open to all students
  • The earliest this will occur is Monday 18 May, 10 days from now.
  • Distance learning will remain available for those unable to attend school, for example who are self-isolating.

Later in the afternoon all schools received information from the Ministry of Education about this, what it means in practice. The BOT and school have begun working through these guidelines and regulations so we will have everything in place for this eventual Level 2 re-opening.

This Monday 11 May we learn when the move to Level 2 occurs and I will put out more detailed information as how schools will be operating.

Until then, go well.

Ngā mihi nui -
