Kōwhai House Dean's Report
An update of all things related to students in the Kōwhai whānau.
Kia ora koutou.
As we rapidly approach the end of Term 2, our senior students will be working towards NCEA Level One, Two or Three. The first step towards achieving this is attending. Therefore, it is imperative we are in class at all times. If your student is sick, please contact me or the front office to let them know. If you wish to speak about progress towards NCEA or their career pathway, please get in contact with me or your student's kaiārahi.
This term has been a busy one as we have started to pack up and begun moving some things to the Avonside Drive site. We will be finishing school this term on Wednesday 3rd July and then starting back for the mihi whakatau and tours of the old Avonside Girls' High School site, Linwood College at Ōtākaro, LCO, on Thursday 25th July.
Our Kōwhai house co-ordinator Miss Young and her team of house leaders are doing a tremendous job organising assemblies. Our most recent assembly had some lip sync/ dance competitions which were fantastic entertainment. At this assembly, Mikayla Hooper was awarded the Dean's certificate. Mikayla is a Year 8 student who all other students in the school can look up to in regards to what it means to be a leader and role-model here at Linwood College due to her strong work-ethic and ability to showcase our school values each day.
It is fantastic to see the uniform being worn with pride. As we reach these colder months, it is important we show school values of excellence and respect by wearing the correct uniform at all times. Uniforms can be purchased here at the school in the uniform shop. Please ensure your student has the full correct uniform. If you need help with this, please contact me anytime.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Martin-Bowen and our eight kaiārahi for their continued work with the Kōwhai whānau this term. It is no surprise that as Term 2 reaches the midpoint, the Kōwhai whānau holds the overall points lead in the Whānau House competition. Ka pai Kōwhai whānau! Haere tonu koutou!
I will leave you with a whakatauki that I read every morning. We as a school always want to develop our learners to the best of their ability, in preparation towards a career pathway they can thrive in and enjoy. At the same time, it is so important to me, that we continue to strive to be fantastic people that can help society flourish and be a place where we can all feel valued and cared for.
He taonga rongonui te aroha ki te tangata.
Goodwill towards others is a precious treasure.
Ngā mihi nui
