Meeting the GrowingNZ Innovation Challenge.

Helen Mora —

Combining Science, technology and business was a winner.

Ten year 10 students from Linwood College joined students from Christchurch to compete in the GrowingNZ Innovation Challenge; a cross curricular project-based learning, a mash-up of science, technology and business. Each team of two students joined with students from another school to apply their subject knowledge and build a prototype solution to a real-life situation being faced by one of New Zealand’s Primary industries. They were helped on the day by industry experts from the Primary Sector.

The challenges ranged from using nanotechnology and genomes to track logs in a forest to using virtual reality and drones to attract young people into the Primary Industries

Highlights ranged from making their prototype, hearing from the industry experts about their job through to enjoying meeting up with and working with students from other schools.
