Karaka House Senior Dean's Report
Kia ora koutou.
We are halfway through Term 2 and it is exciting to be at our new site at Te Aratai College. It is great to see students doing the right thing and being in the right place at the right time.
At the beginning of the term, we had a fantastic assembly where we celebrated last year's NCEA success. Well done to those students who received Merit or Excellence Endorsements in NCEA in 2021. This is something to be proud of! Students from Karaka house who received these certificates are:
Merit: Manisha Baines, Ashlin Chandra, Hamida Ghazizada, Kiah Rogers Marshall, Elise Lester, Roe Tutanes, Kaltan Kazakos-Gardner, Alexsandra Laufiso
Excellence: Jason Prakash, Denise Joy Dilay
Our focus for this term is attendance and uniform. On the whole, students are doing the right thing. You will have seen the previous emails/articles from our principal around expectations for uniforms - if you have any concerns or problems with finding your child the correct uniform please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
A reminder please get in contact with the school office for explained absences so they can be appropriately marked on our system.
In the first instance the Kaiārahi follows up on the attendance and from here for unexplained absences, students may be required for a lunchtime “Give Back Time” where they can make up the time they have missed and also any learning.
Coming up we have Wā Whakanui and Academic Conferencing. For our senior students, this is an important opportunity to check in with the ākonga and whānau about where their academic success is tracking and what we can do for them early in terms of support and making sure they are on track.
This is a great opportunity for you to also meet with their kaiārahi. I look forward to meeting some of you over this time as well.
Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me at any time.
