Kōwhai Whānau House Dean's Report

Jesse Harding —

Review of all things Kōwhai for 2020.

Kia ora koutou katoa.

The year is coming to an end already. Time certainly goes fast when we are learning and having fun along the way.

I want to take this time to acknowledge all those Kōwhai students who were awarded placings or special prizes at our recent Senior Prizegiving. It was great to see so many of our student's hard work and determination to succeed be rewarded. We had a huge number of students receive class placings which they should be extremely proud of themselves for. We also had students receive overall learning area awards and/or major awards.

Our major awards, or special learning area award winners included Annamarie Puni, Ashvin Kumar, Nafanua Ah-Loe, Jasmine Keating, Paul Reyes, Syntori Faataape, Zoe Busch and Chase Bowen-Kaahu. Ka pai koutou!

Kōwhai also had great success at the Sports Awards this year. Award winners from Kōwhai included Jayden Bamford and Patricia Pangilinan who were awarded two and one of the top prizes, respectively. Congratulations kōrua.

Kōwhai won the House Events Trophy for the second consecutive year which shows how well our rōpū work together. Congratulations to all of the Kōwhai students.

I want to thank Deputy Principal Mrs. Martin Bowen for all the work she has done for Kōwhai this year as well as our 10 kaiārahi. Our students would not have had the success they have had without you.

I hope to see you at the Junior Prizegiving which is happening Friday 11th November at 10 am.

Finally, I have stepped down from being the Kōwhai Dean. Kōwhai Whānau House will have two co-deans next year that will work together to continue the positive direction our ākonga are going in. Thank you all for working with me these past two years. I will still be a teacher at Linwood College and look forward to spending more time in the classroom teaching. Enjoy your holiday break and we will see you in 2021 for our last full year at Linwood College at Ōtākaro.

He taonga rongonui te aroha ki te tangata.
Goodwill towards others is a precious treasure.

Ngā mihi nui
