Linwood College Pathway and Option Selection Guide 2021
Amy Martin-Bowen - August 1, 2021
Term 3, Weeks 3-4
We encourage you to sit down with your child and see what they have entered on Career Central. This website helps students identify potential career pathways which will guide their option selection.
Term 3, Weeks 4-6
Students should familiarise themselves and their whānau with the pathway and option information under the Learning at Linwood tab on the new school website including:
the options on offer
the entry recommendations
whether the option is UE approved
Students will select their options and students, parents/caregivers and kaiārahi will discuss identified pathways and selected options at the Wā Whakanui and Academic Conferences (for Years 7-13) in Week 6, Term 3, and sign off options selected.
Note: In Week 6 there will be a mini LCŌ Careers’ Expo at school - more information to come.
Important Considerations for Parents/whānau:
Parents/whānau are the most important influencers on young people’s career development.
While some options are necessary to keep a pathway open, students should be encouraged to take at least one creative option. It is important for students to leave school confident about expressing themselves in public arenas, and it is also important for students to develop talents and skills across a range of curriculum areas.
While it is helpful for you to give advice to and guide your child, it is also important for you to recognise the skills, talents and interests of your child and allow him/her to develop a plan for the future. Whānau has an important role to play in this pathway process because they know their children so well.
Note: Tertiary pathways at ARA will be offered to Senior students. These pathways require the students to be at ARA for one or two days a week.
You are welcome to contact the Careers’ Advisors/ Deans/ Senior Leaders to ask questions or make a time to meet to discuss your child’s options further.
