Kōwhai House Dean's Report

Jesse Harding —

An update of all things related to students in the Kōwhai whānau.

Kia ora koutou.

We are now at the halfway point of Term Three in what has been a busy term at our wonderful new site. Our senior students are working towards attaining NCEA Level One, Level Two or Level Three. Attending school each day is a hugely important part of working towards those achievements, as our data currently shows the strong link between attendance and success. However, while being in class is important, engaging with learning is the next step. So many of our Kōwhai students are demonstrating tremendous engagement as some are on their way to NCEA endorsements. If you are wanting updates on how your student is progressing towards these goals, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either myself or your student's kaiārahi.

In Week Four we had the Inter-house netball competition which Kōwhai won. The Kōwhai team, organised by our excellent Whānau House Rōpū Co-ordinator Miis Young, won all of their games to take out the event and still maintain the overall points lead for the year. The prize for winning the event was a game against the staff on Friday Lunchtime. The staff picked up the win with a score of 9-1.

A big thank you to all those who were able to attend our recent Wā Whakanui. The rough translation for this is 'a time to celebrate'. It was wonderful to see the learning that is happening with our students and it was powerful to watch them share this learning with you. I look forward to these continuing in the coming years and want to commend all the students who presented. Ka pai koutou!

Our school uniform is looking great and each student is wearing this with pride. Students' non-regulation uniform items are confiscated and handed back on Tuesdays and Fridays after school. Thank you for your support in ensuring our students are wearing the uniform correctly each day.

I would like to take this opportunity to again thank Mrs Martin-Bowen and our eight kaiārahi for their continued work with the Kōwhai whānau this term. We are lucky to have such tremendous teachers guiding and providing awhi to our students.

The whakatauki I will leave you with today is around the hope that we can work together to ensure the success of our students. I always want to connect with whānau. I am only an email or phone call away.

Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa
Let us keep close together not far apart

Ngā mihi nui,
Mr Jesse Harding
