Having a Blast

Siegrun Koop —

Level 2 Tourism and Social Action for Life field trip to Hanmer Springs.

This term, our Level 2 Tourism and Social Action for Life students took their learning experiences out of class to explore one of New Zealand’s popular tourist destinations, Hanmer Springs. The ākonga have planned this fun-filled trip as part of their assessments including some gourmet style meals prepared by the students.

We were lucky to be offered a great deal from the local tourism providers and blasted off in a jet boat through the Waiau River canyon followed by a very busy visit to the Hanmer Springs thermal pool. The hydro slides and hot pools were definitely a hit. In between, students explored some of the local tourist attractions including a surprise walk up Conical Hill (although the students thought we were going to Four Square) in the late afternoon sun. On the way back to Christchurch, plans were already made for possible next destinations… watch this space.
