Classical Studies Trip to the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities
Students were introduced to George, the collections iconic Roman bust, got a close up look of the Roman emperor Hadrian, and even a chance to touch an original coin of the time of Augustus.
The Year 13 Classical Studies class was given the opportunity to experience original ancient Greek and Roman artefacts at close range during a visit to the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities in the Arts Centre. The collection is part of the UC College of Arts. The Curatorial Assistant, Alice, took the class on an exclusive guided tour of the current exhibition Beyond the Grave: Death in Ancient Times. It gave the students a great opportunity to build on their knowledge of this term's topic on Roman Art and Architecture. They were introduced to George, the collection's iconic Roman bust, got a close up look of the Roman emperor Hadrian and even a chance to touch an original coin of the time of Augustus. It was a real pleasure taking this hard working group of students out of the classroom for a first hand glance at pieces of artwork we were studying this year.
