RYDA - Driver Safety

Tinamarie Munro —

Year 12’s learn what the experts believe makes a good driver.

Jun 22nd, Term 2 over 70 Year 12’s spent the day participating in the RYDA Road Safety Education Workshop, designed for 15 -18 year-olds as they begin to drive or ride in cars driven by their peers.

The programme was developed by Road Safety Education Limited (RSE) and is used in schools throughout Australia and New Zealand. The workshop challenges students, whether they have their licenses or not, to change the way they think about road safety and lay the foundation for safe road use throughout their lives.

The aim of the programme is to increase an understanding of road safety issues (including risk factors), educate students about their rights and responsibilities on the road and equip them with the tools they need to choose behaviours that lead to safer outcomes on New Zealand roads.

Students had an opportunity to complete a booklet on the road safety ideas learned and go in a draw for a $50 prezzie card. Well done to George Ashton for being the lucky student to gain the $50.
