Junior Ki-O-Rahi visits Hillmorton

Jesse Harding —

The Junior Ki-O-Rahi team travelled to Hillmorton High School to play the first-ever game on the newly planted Ki-O-Rahi field.

On Tuesday 27th November, the Junior Linwood College Ki-O-Rahi team travelled to Hillmorton High School to play the first-ever game on the newly planted Ki-O-Rahi Field. The field was blessed earlier in the afternoon and Linwood College was asked to compete in the first game.

The Junior team has been narrowed down from 40 after numerous practices and trials. The Ki-O-Rahi coach, Mr Harding, was incredibly impressed by the dedication and resilience the team showed to have such a positive attitude about playing in the wet, rainy conditions.

After showing some nerves and trailing 12-1 after the first quarter, Linwood College settled into the game and came away 28-18 winners. Michael Mariner, Timi Pirikahu-Waata, Hamuera Tainui, Sharah Pirikahu-Waata and Lisana Tifaga were the stand-out players on the day.

It was a blessing to be the first-ever game on the newly planted field. We would like to thank Hillmorton for inviting us. The beautiful game of Ki-O-Rahi is growing! Mauri Ora!
