For the last three weeks, a small group of students and Whaea Charlotte have headed down to Sumner Beach for surfing lessons. The whole group now have the skills to ‘pop’ up and stand and turn in the waves. We have learned about defining the sort of waves that are seen, working out the wind direction and what that means in terms of safety and identifying rips and hazards in the water. We also just had an awesome time. We all caught a ton of waves, we stood up, we fell off, we cheered each other on. Lots and lots of laughter, and we all slept very well on Wednesday night. We think this might be the return of the Linwood College Surf Club!

This opportunity has been made available by Simon Thwaites of Silver Skies who has picked up the cost of boards and wetsuit hire along with the cost of the lessons. Simon is a member of The Linwood College Foundation and wants to give students from Linwood College the opportunity to share in his passion for surfing.
