Late-summer Dramarama

Samantha Boyce-Da Cruz —

An eventful term for our Drama students.

Our combined Drama course of Level 1 and 3 students is brimming with talented actors. The last week of the term had this company of students taking part in the assessment of their techniques which was named, "A Latesummer Night's Dream" due to most of the plays being based on Shakespearian drama with a strong Kiwi interpretation to them. This involved the students performing using voice, body movement and use of space. The theatre was packed and the students performed excellently.

Meanwhile, the Level 2 Music and Drama class have been busy creating their own company MAOW (If you want to know what that stands for you will have to ask someone in the company). The focus of this term was devised with a theme of "change." The students took on this challenge with enthusiasm and interest. The Music students created music for the play and the Drama students wrote the script centred around a world where females are prejudiced against males and takes place over two time periods. Mr Russel and Ms Cruz have enjoyed watching this group begin to work together as a company with all the students running every part of the production.
