STEAM Activity in Team Harakeke

Ms Brickland —

Recently, some of the Team Harakeke learners enjoyed a STEAM activity- making a terrarium from an old plastic coke bottle!

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.

We also incorporated literacy into our STEAM activity, by writing our own instructions on how to make a terrarium from a bottle.

Creating a Coke Bottle Terrarium is Easy!

To make a garden in a bottle, wash and dry a 2-litre plastic bottle.
1.Cut the bottle with a pair of sharp scissors. Set the top of the bottle aside for later.
2.Place a small layer of pebbles in the bottom of the bottle.
3. Add enough potting mix to fill the bottle up to about 10 cm from the top. The coke bottle terrarium is now ready to plant! When you’re finished planting,
 4. Slide the top of the bottle over the bottom. (You may have to squeeze the bottom so the top will fit.)
5. Enjoy your new terrarium!
