Last week, Riccarton Primary got a new visitor.

Whaea Adele —

Meet Ric!

He is going to be part of a public art trail in Christchurch, made up of 50 large penguin sculptures, sponsored by companies and decorated by established and emerging artists, along with up to 65 little penguins, decorated by schools as part of the 'Pop Up Penguins' Learning Programme.

The art trail will be similar to that of the giraffes you may have spotted around Christchurch. It will celebrate all the unique parts of our city and will highlight themes like climate change, community, Antarctica, creativity, innovation and exploration.

After 10 weeks of being out and about in Christchurch, the street sized penguins will be auctioned to raise money for Cholmondeley Children’s Centre and Ric will return to live at Riccarton Primary School.

There will be a team of students working on Ric, so watch this space for updates!
