Tuesday 31st May

New Building - Te Tūāraki - (To the North, north wind)

A week ago teachers from Team Kahikatea got to go for their first tour of the new building. It was fair to say that everyone was very impressed and excited about the teaching and learning that we will be able to do in this new and superb space. In preparation for this move, team Kahikatea staff have been working with education consultant Neill O'Reilly on the teaching and learning that will take place in this more flexible environment. They have completed some very good work already and things will be well in hand for the move.

We are still on schedule for a handover on Friday 2nd September. These are some pictures from inside the new building;

Wednesday 18 May 2022

New Building - Te Tūāraki - (To the North, north wind)

The building is still on track to be completed on time in September which is pleasing. The roof went on in week 2 and the exterior cladding is due to go on soon. There has been a staff walkthrough specifically looking at things like plug placement and data outlets etc.

Team Kahikatea Rooms 7-11 will relocate to this block on completion of the building. Planning is well in place for this move into more modern and collaborative teaching spaces. We are super excited and this has been years in the making. We will keep all parents updated on how we will operate in this new block and there will be a chance for all school parents to walk through the block, there will be an open evening for parents of learners in team Kāhikatea in due course.

Thursday 17th March

It is pleasing to note the progress of our new classroom block Te Tūāraki. The foundation and slab concrete was poured this morning. From next week we should see the steel framing go up. Exciting!

New Building - Te Tūāraki - (To the North, north wind)

Kia ora koutou

A big day at Te Kāpehu today as we had Corban Te Aika bless the building site for our new building (Te Tūāraki-to the north, north wind) on behalf of mana whenua. This was part of a sod-turning ceremony where sisters Helen Year 8 and Orebwa Year 1 turned the sod of earth. Helen is leaving us this year after 8 years at school and her sister has just started! Normally we would have had all the school and parents etc at the event but due to COVID, we had to keep it small and follow health restrictions. We will post a video in the comments as well! Please note the building will start on Monday and severely restrict our front playing field. Also, the second English Street gate won't be able to be used. Please be patient and understanding as this building work will continue until 2023!

19 November 2021

New Building - Te Tūāraki - (To the North, north wind)

Kia ora koutou te whānau

We have some exciting news to share. Our school building project will be starting on Monday 6th December. A sod-turning ceremony led by local rūnanga will be taking place on the morning of Friday 3rd December. The first part of this project will be the construction of a brand new six classroom block on the site of the old playground, basketball and former big tree area.

We will be having a pre-construction meeting next week and will share the building site compound plans and any health and safety information then. This will reduce our playing areas over the next two years as the staged upgrades take place.
