Here is a retelling of a myth you may know.
Maui and the Sun
Myth retold by Ashton Wells, Year 3, Space 9.
The sun was moving way too fast. Maui and his brothers couldn’t hunt for everything that they needed like food and sticks. Maui couldn’t go to the forest and get sticks for the fire. So they decided to make a plan. They were all going to go to a place to wait for the sun to rise and put the sun in a net and then they would get ropes and pull on them as hard as they could. They did this and then told the sun if he didn’t slow down they would not let him go and if he slowed down he would be freed, so the sun agreed and slowed down because he didn’t want to be in pain when they were trapping him. Maui and his brothers made the sun slow down and from then on, they could do their work.
