Adventures to the Interchange

Tyler Redmond and Miss Fry —

Written by Tyler Redmond with support from Miss Fry

On Tuesday the 4th April I went to the bus interchange with Chris the librarian from our school, we have been planning this trip since the 27th of March. This was my third time being at the Bus Interchange in the city.

I was ready to go I was feeling excited. When we got to the bus stop just outside school the bus was still 14 minutes away so we waited in the shelter of the bus stop. I didn’t check the bus finder until the bus was 6 minutes away. Then when the bus came Chris gave the driver $6 to get us to Platform A in Town.

Along the way we saw many things. At Westfield Riccarton there was a new Metro Lounge and it looked very small we went past Christchurch Hospital and we saw a statue on the roof.

When we arrived at Platform A we went to meet Chris’s friend Shannon where we met at Door 2. I thought Shannon worked at the metro info counter just beside Platform C but really she works at ECan.

When we met Shannon she took us to the control room where we met Liam. He conducts all the buses using his bus intercom. There is some way that the interchange senses the buses arriving and Liam tells them what door to go to. Liam let me have a turn on the intercom to conduct the purple line (Sheffield Crescent via The University 691) to the correct door. “Purple line to Sheffield Crescent Via The University door 12.” I said over the intercom.

Then we went to have morning tea and I had a chocolate chip cookie with lollies on top followed by a Charlies’ Honest Squeezed Orange Juice.

After morning tea we returned to school on the yellow line to Hornby (2208).

Thank you Chris for taking me to the bus interchange.

Thank you Shannon for taking me to the control room and introducing me to Liam and giving me all the buses to make at home in the holidays. Too bad I can’t visit you in the holidays at the Bus Interchange as you'll be having a baby !
