Learning Partnerships and Character in Action
Wow, what a busy end to Term 1 we have had in Team Kāpuka!
Our classes have recently visited the Upper Riccarton Library. This is a learning partnership we really value and we look forward to going each term to use the amazing resources. Some of our plans for 2021 include Matariki, Robotics, Coding and Crafts.
All of our learners have researched, written and presented a speech during Literacy and a group of our tamariki were chosen to deliver their speeches. They all certainly demonstrated courage and each took to the stage with confidence, showing real character. Congratulations to Arko Poumale, Tiffany Teasdale, Emile Veldsman, Thea Oberres and Somana Nguon Chheun!
Last Friday saw our ākonga giving it all at the Annual Cross Country/Fun Run and dressing as Super Heroes certainly added the FUN factor! Once again we were super proud of the efforts everyone put in and the GRIT and determination shown all around the course. To our Year 5's entering their first competitive races Ka mau te wehi! The training certainly paid off and we hope you keep up the fitness over Winter. Year 4 placegetters: Arko, Mustafa, Eli, Tausulu, Charlotte , Serenity , AJ , Hanna and Raimi. Special mention to R.J, Emile, Jahzaira, Amazing Grace, Serenaia, Layla, Cordell, Nikau and Skylar, who all ran an amazing 3 laps! Ka nui te mahi!
Alongside this we had a great session with Mainland Football, making dumplings with R3 whānau, and our Year 4's received a Usborne Dictionary each from the Upper Riccarton Rotary club.
We are very fortunate to have many volunteers and we are grateful this term to our Garden to Table volunteers, whānau who have helped us on camp and in class, St Thomas of Canterbury group who volunteer every Wednesday, Evie and Caleb from La Vida and our Senior students who help us in so many ways!
Next term we will be diving deep into our Wearable Arts Unit, with a trip to the Art Gallery in Week 3. Keep an eye out for letters and permissions coming home soon via email. Have a safe and relaxing holiday break with your whānau
Nga mihi nui kia koutou!
