Throughout 2018, Team Kahikatea learners have participated in a Mandarin language course, run by the Confucius Institute (accessed through the University of Canterbury).
This Mandarin course has had an emphasis on speaking and listening. Students learnt Mandarin words and sentences through interesting games and activities. These activities helped to create a Mandarin speaking environment which allowed the students to learn the language better. Cultural activities were also included to allow the students to learn more about, and be interested in Chinese culture and language.
Each year we get to choose two students who show passion, focus and dedication to learning Mandarin during our weekly sessions, to receive excellence awards at the Confucius Institute Chinese Prizegiving, held at St Margarets College.
This year, Hannah Kuiler and Mele Alatini were selected to receive an excellence award for their fabulous work and incredible effort. Unfortunately, neither of our winners were able to attend the presentation evening, so they will be presented with their certificates later this term.
Well done to both of you for demonstrating what fabulous Real Learners you are! Ka pai!
