Visit from Professor Dilafruz Williams

Mrs Lees —

On Thursday the 25th October, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Professor Dilafruz Williams. She came to meet with Mrs Lees, Colin and Karen, and look at our school garden.

Professor Dilafruz has worked largely with Portland (Oregon) schools over the last few decades. She is a botanist/teacher educator and co-founder of the ‘Learning Gardens’ movement (see links below). A widely respected US Environmental Education researcher, Dilafruz has also done some interesting collaborative learning garden work with Native American/Indigenous scholars and multi-ethnic urban communities.

Professor Dilafruz was most impressed by our garden, orchard and the learning happening in our 'Garden to Table' programme. She was pleased to see that the children are getting back in touch with the soil and getting their hands dirty - learning where our food comes from and growing and making food grown from plants and trees cared for by our learners.

We should be very proud of our school garden! Well done to Karen and Colin for their wonderful work in making the 'Garden to Table' programme so successful and meaningful for our learners!
