Sun safety !

Whāea Melissa —

In Room 2 last week we were learning about what it means to be sunsmart.

We made some really cool necklaces and bracelets out of UV sensitive beads, that change colour when you go into the sun. After noticing how fast they changed colour we realised how quickly the sun can damage our skin!! After some discussion we came up with lots of ideas as to how you can be sun smart too!

  • Stay in the shade if you don't have a hat- it's not safe to spend lots of time in the sun!
  • Put on Sunblock - cover your neck, ears, arms and legs. Anywhere that isn't covered with clothes!
  • Wear a sunhat - it is important to wear a sunhat even on cloudy days.
  • Stay hydrated - you need to drink lots of water to stay cool and make sure you don't get dehydrated.
  • Wear sunglasses - it is important to protect your eyes from the sun
  • Wear clothes in the sun to protect your skin - we need to cover ourselves to stop our skin from burning in the sun.

Remember to be sun safe for the rest of summer!
