Dear parents , whānau, staff, members of the Riccarton community and the Ministry of Education,

As the Board of Trustees of Riccarton Primary School, we support the New Zealand Education Institute-Te Riu Roa members’ claims for increased recognition of the teaching profession. It’s time to put in place rewards and recognition that ensure that teaching is a sought after career option for young New Zealanders. We also believe that current teachers must be appropriately remunerated for their experience, facing many challenges and the sacrifices they make to support tamariki and their whānau. We support generous salary increases and steps to reduce teachers’ workloads. Teachers play a critical role in ensuring tamariki become informed, valued and contributing members of our society – let’s make sure they are valued.
