Year 7 and 8 Camp at Waipara Adventure Centre

Whaea Adele —

Last week the Year 7 and 8 students spent three days focused on Outdoor Education at the Waipara Adventure Centre.

On Wednesday we departed school at 9am and arrived at the centre at 10am with enough time to drop off our bags and then enjoy a sunny river walk. We arrived back at the camp in time for lunch and then started the first of our rotations. These were: kayaking, raft building, orienteering and the water slide, archery and Faulty Towers.

We finished the day with a delicious roast beef dinner made by Chef Sue and a dip in the water hole!

On Thursday the learners completed four more rotations. The sun was out and it was a perfect day with lots of laughter and challenges! There was tons of risk taking and it was fantastic to see our tamariki stepping out of their comfort zones and feeling great from their accomplishments!

Thursday night we had a camp concert and WOW,  what an amazing bunch of students we have. The range of talent was awesome with acting, dancing, reading aloud, joke telling and singing! The adults performed a dance too but sadly didn't win. It was butter chicken for dinner followed by donuts! Yum! Thursday night was completed with a very energetic game of spotlight in the dark!

Friday was a cleaning and pack up day! It was super sunny so we spent time on the flying fox and water slide and just enjoying each others' company before clearing out the bunk rooms and heading back to school.

What an amazing experience!
