International Students

Felicity Upjohn —

Te Koromiko Swannanoa School is proud to welcome international students aged 10 to 13 years. With a strong global focus and the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, we offer a caring, inclusive environment where students can learn, connect, and grow as global citizens.

Te Koromiko Swannanoa School is located just 15 minutes north of Christchurch, in the beautiful Canterbury region of New Zealand.

Over the past four years, we have been developing strong international connections with China through our Global Ambassador Programme. This includes regular virtual lessons with our sister schools in China and opportunities for our own students to travel abroad, experiencing Chinese culture first-hand. These experiences have built genuine friendships and strengthened intercultural understanding among our learners.

As part of our commitment to global education, Te Koromiko Swannanoa School holds the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, which allows us to welcome international students aged 10 to 13 years into our school community.

This initiative aligns closely with our strategic objective of enriching our school community by incorporating diverse perspectives and experiences, thereby enhancing the educational journey for all students. By welcoming fee-paying international students, we aim to foster internationalisation within our school, creating meaningful opportunities for students and staff to engage with diverse cultures through collaborative teaching and learning.

This cultural exchange not only broadens perspectives but also strengthens our commitment to inclusivity, respect, and understanding—core values at the heart of Te Koromiko. It also extends our existing international programme, which includes online learning with Chinese schools and student participation in camps in China. As North Canterbury continues to expand and diversify, we see the introduction of greater cultural diversity through our international student programme as an invaluable opportunity to build global awareness and intercultural understanding across our school.

At Te Koromiko, we are proud to nurture a learning environment that celebrates diversity and encourages curiosity about the world. The presence of international students enriches this environment, giving our learners authentic experiences in global citizenship. Through these interactions, our students develop the empathy, understanding, and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Our ultimate goal is to prepare all students at Te Koromiko to become connected global citizens, equipped to contribute meaningfully to society both locally and globally. By welcoming international students into our school community, we are not only broadening horizons but also enriching the educational experience for everyone.
